Mr John Pilgrim, Executive Director of The Productivity Council, has been elected as a Fellow in the World Academy of Productivity Science. He has been elected by virtue of significant and longstanding contributions to the improvement of quality, quality of work, quality of work life, quality of life and productivity. His induction occurred at the World Productivity Congress held in China from 8-10 October 2006.

During the Congress, a ceremony was held to induct a number of new Fellows to the World Academy of Productivity Science. These individuals were recognised for their achievements in productivity science - as theorists, as educators, or as leaders.

The World Confederation of Productivity Science is an international body established to develop the productivity of both public and private sectors, improve work conditions all over the world, and promote quality of life at a global level. Over 1,000 delegates from more than 40 countries went to Shenyang, China to hear about the latest developments in productivity science.
The theme of the Congress, Pursuing Scientific and Sustainable Growth in Productivity & Performance, was brought out in the presentations which ranged across economic productivity, through national and regional productivity infrastructures to organisational productivity and finally onto personal performance and development.
What is more significant about Mr Pilgrim’s induction is that he is the first person from the Caribbean and Latin America to be bestowed that honour. Only 398 persons from across the globe have been inducted into the Academy since its inception thirty-seven (37) years ago in 1969. Mr Pilgrim has worked extensively throughout the Caribbean in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) – Programme for Management – Labour Cooperation (PROMALCO) project, the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD) and the Caribbean Management Development Association (CAMDA) to promote the principles of productivity. Mr Pilgrim in his comments stated that he was very happy to receive that honor and acknowledged the contribution of Mr Darcy Boyce, chairman of The Productivity Council as well as that of previous chairpersons such as Dr Basil Springer and Professor Andrew Downes to his accomplishments.

Mr Boyce in his congratulatory address at a separate function held at The Productivity Council, was quick to congratulate Mr Pilgrim on his good works. He also congratulated the staff at the Council who were all very supportive and helped to facilitate Mr Pilgrim’s achievements.
